Industry Overview

Engineering Polymers for
Electrical Components

A reference overview of insulating and structural polymers used in switchgear, transformers, connectors, relays, and power electronics.

⚡

Switchgear and Circuit Protection

Low-voltage switchgear depends on glass-fiber reinforced PA66 for the insulating frame and arc-chamber parts. The frame has to hold dimensional stability through repeated thermal cycling and through the mechanical shock of an interrupt event, and glass-fiber content directly sets both stiffness and the creep behavior that governs long-term dimensional drift.

🧵

Coil Bobbins and Insulation

PA46 and PEI dominate coil bobbin and transformer insulation components because they combine high heat resistance with long flow length, which lets thin-wall, long-flow geometries mold without short shots. LCP is used where service temperature is higher still and creep resistance becomes the limiting factor.

🔌

Connectors and Terminal Blocks

Connector bodies are specified on three axes at once: insulation rating, dimensional stability across humidity and temperature, and flame performance. PBT, LCP, and PPS cover the mid-to-high end of that range, while PC/ABS serves general-purpose housings where impact resistance drives the design.

🤝

Our Role

Jinsutong supplies PA66, PA46, PBT, PPS, PC/ABS, and PEI grades — including glass-fiber reinforced and flame-retardant versions — to electrical component makers in Suzhou, Wuxi, Ningbo, and Hangzhou. Whether you are qualifying a housing grade, sourcing a bobbin resin, or evaluating a domestic alternative, our business team supports sampling and validation.

Typical Applications

Where Electrical Polymers
Carry Current Safely

Reference application overview covering switchgear frames, relay housings, connector bodies, and power electronics.

Low-Voltage Switchgear and MCCBs

Molded-case and miniature circuit breakers use glass-fiber reinforced PA66 for the base and frame that carries the arc-quenching chamber. Creepage and clearance distances are validated against the frame's tracking resistance and against how it behaves after a short-circuit interrupt test.

Relay and Timer Housings

Relay bases and timer housings are typically glass-fiber reinforced PA66 or PC/ABS. In reinforced grades, wall thickness can drop to roughly 1.5–2.0 mm without losing stiffness, which matters when the product has to fit an existing DIN-rail footprint and socket.

Connectors and Terminal Blocks

PBT and LCP cover connector bodies that must hold insulation resistance across humidity and temperature cycling. LCP's low creep keeps terminal pitch stable under sustained insertion force — a common cause of contact-resistance drift in glass-filled PBT designs.

EV Charging and Power Electronics

EV charging modules and power controllers combine PPS and PA46 structural parts with LCP connectors. Both PPS and PA46 hold stiffness and electrical properties at sustained elevated temperature near power semiconductors, where commodity plastics creep enough to change contact pressure.

Why Choose Jinsutong

An Electrical Polymer Partner
for Component Makers

Insulating, structural, and flame-retardant engineering polymers — supporting switchgear, transformer, connector, and electronics manufacturers.

01

Insulating Grade Portfolio

PA66, PA46, PEI, and LCP cover the insulating range from ambient-temperature switchgear parts up to high-heat bobbin and busbar-support applications, so one supplier can cover most of an electrical component BOM.

02

Reinforced and Flame-Retardant Options

Glass-fiber reinforced grades set stiffness; flame-retardant versions target the UL 94 level your end market actually requires. We supply both families and will match them to the certification level on the drawing instead of over-specifying a higher rating than needed.

03

Domestic Substitution Support

For cost-sensitive programs we help evaluate domestic alternatives for reinforced PA66, PBT, and LCP — providing dimensional, creep, and insulation-resistance comparison data so you can decide on evidence rather than on a sample hand-off.

04

Yangtze River Delta Logistics

Suzhou, Wuxi, Ningbo, Hangzhou, and Shanghai electrical clusters sit within roughly 2–4 hours truck reach of our Fengxian base. That supports same-week sample delivery, emergency restock, and bonded-warehouse export flows for Southeast Asian customers.

Case Studies

Electrical Application Case Studies

Fictional but realistic electrical scenarios. Material selection and processing conditions are the primary design constraints.

Case A

Molded-Case Circuit Breaker — Reinforced PA66 Frame

A 250 A molded-case breaker used glass-fiber reinforced PA66 for the base and the frame carrying the arc chamber. Design targets were dimensional stability across −25 °C to +70 °C and 85/85 humidity conditioning, with tracking resistance re-verified after the interrupt test.

Case B

Control Transformer Bobbin — PA46

A 150 VA control transformer bobbin molded in PA46 at 0.8 mm wall thickness replaced a thermoset alternative. Selection was driven by long flow length at the 2-minute cycle time and by retention of insulation class at the 130 °C winding temperature.

Case C

EV Charging Connector — LCP Contact Carrier

A 250 A charging connector moved its contact carrier to glass-fiber reinforced LCP after terminal pitch drift proved to be the limiting factor in an earlier glass-filled PBT design. The LCP version held pitch change under thermal cycling within the tolerance of the contact spring.
